Oasis of knowledge

This series of paintings explores the deep relation and spiritual interaction between humans, nature and the ancestors. The ancestors live on in animals, plants, trees and water. In this way, the family tree is not limited physically to the human form, but is prolonged by animal and spirit forms, known as totems in modern psychology. This family connexion with nature and animals influences the way the Shona treat their natural environment and those who have come before them can show them the way. Thus, they must remember to respect their ancesytors, for without them they would lose much more than what is normally considered important in their daily lives. These artistic creations explore the dreams that unite the artist with the spiritual forces interwoven in the atmosphere and the deep waters of the physical world. The energy in these symbols is generated by the spiritual and ancestral beliefs of the artist through his tribe. The abstract nature of the images depicts the invisible world. At the heart of this abstraction, there exist several levels of landscapes, sacred places, divinities and beings that reveal themselves throughout his meditation. The color blue that persists throughout the series represents water, an element strongly connected to healing and purification, as well as the spirit world. The color red signifies the blood connection between the living and the ancestors. The colors green and yellow show the connection with nature. Oasis of knowledge
