It takes a village series
One of the first lessons I remember consciously learning, was my mother telling me to treat everyone with the same level of respect I give her. Every mother in the village was a mother to me, every male figure: a father or a brother and younger female figure would get the same level of respect. The lesson never left me. It is the same filter I use to navigate this plain.
These are the foundations we built our African communities on. Ubuntu, Botho. The lesson has deepened as I got older, So this series came to me as a reminder that no-one makes it in this world alone. I extended this understanding to include the ancestor, guides and angels that help us navigate this time, space reality.
And a prominent figure in this series is my maternal grandmother, Mam’Tyilibe. Although we never met in the physical realm. her guidance, love and support is so unwavering. It actually leaves me in awe. So This series is also an acknowledgement to all my angels I call by name and ones who’s names I don’t know. And will probably never know.
