Claire paintings puncture the membrane between dream and reality, past and present, light, and dark, (permeating the ephemeral). A combination of romanticism and nostalgia. In her works she explores notions of self in both our physical, and spiritual dimensions, while focusing on creating delicate representations of the black woman, revealing her journey from youth to motherhood. She is also fascinated by the idea of identity and the role growth plays in discovering it. Her purposefully contrasted paintings conjure a series of shifting moods and experiences connected by a wide range of emotional positions regarding the private and public self.
